  • Now Accepting Applications for ATC Board Member โ€“ Commissioner District 1

    The Owen County Commissioners are seeking a qualified resident from Commissioner District 1 to serve on the Alcohol & Tobacco Commission (ATC).

    This local board plays a critical role in investigating and voting on alcoholic beverage permit applications within Owen County. It includes members appointed by local officials and the Indiana State Excise Police.

    Applicants must reside in one of the townships that are included in Commissioner District 1.

    Job Summary

    Owen County is hiring a Field Officer to assist with supervision and support of individuals on probation, home detention, and electronic monitoring. This vital role ensures participant accountability, safety in the community, and efficient operation of our community corrections programs.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct field visits to homes, workplaces, and other approved locations
    • Administer alcohol and drug tests (breathalyzer, sobriety checks)
    • Respond to emergencies and violations in the field
    • Maintain detailed records and update department systems
    • Operate department vehicles and maintain issued equipment
    • Perform clerical duties including data entry and file maintenance
    • Uphold rules set by the Indiana Department of Corrections and court policies

    Requirements

    • High school diploma or GED
    • Must be at least 21 years old
    • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record
    • Ability to pass a drug test and meet department standards
    • Strong knowledge of criminal justice procedures and legal reporting
    • Comfort working with diverse populations, including emotionally distressed individuals
    • Physically able to run, lift 50+ lbs, and work in various environmental conditions
    • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
    • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and respond to emergencies as needed

    Work Environment

    This position involves a mix of fieldwork and office tasks. Officers may encounter potentially violent individuals and must be capable of making sound decisions in high-pressure situations. Safety protocols and universal precautions are strictly followed.
