Brandon Staley

Brandon worked for Owen County EMS for 12 years prior to his death in the line of duty on August 8, 2021. He was a licensed Paramedic and served in EMS for more than 15 years. Brandon had become a Paramedic that others could model themselves after. He quickly moved through the ranks at Owen County, becoming a shift supervisor and then the Assistant Director.
Brandon pushed to be the best Paramedic possible and led the charge to ensure that all staff provided quality care to every patient. He became interested in reducing the infant mortality rate of Owen County and assisted in bringing a Safe Sleep program to the area.

Final Call to Service

On August 8, 2021, Brandon responded to a severe auto accident that had left the roadway. The accident involved four patients. Access to the scene was difficult due to the terrain. After traversing the area, two pediatric patients were transferred to the waiting ambulance, where Brandon and his partner treated their injuries while a firefighter drove them to the hospital.
During the course of getting the patients and equipment from the accident scene to the ambulance, Brandon developed chest pain. Despite this, he continued to care for the patients—initiating IVs and assessing them for further treatment. While en route to the hospital, Brandon went unconscious. He was taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital but did not regain consciousness.
