Mission

The mission of the Owen County Highway Department is to plan and use our resources wisely working within our budget to provide safe and reliable transportation services through maintenance and improvement. We will strive to accomplish this mission with the spirit of teamwork, by allowing open communication with a true sense of dedication and responsibility to our community.

      Principles:

  • To provide a safe and reliable transportation system. One that is most efficient with available funding.

  • To provide quality customer service by striving to provide maintenance levels necessary to achieve full public satisfaction.

  • Ensure that projects provide the most functional economic benefit through responsible expenditure of funds and quality intergovernmental communication.

 

Owen County Highway Department is responsible for 632 miles of roads. 

The Highway Department is responsible for maintenance and preservation of all certified county roads and drainage systems.  The department’s specific functions include: road resurfacing, chip and sealing, grading gravel roads, vegetation control, ditching, sign maintenance, snow removal, and fleet maintenance of county highway vehicles.

The Highway Departments ARPA Road Plan has been approved by the Commissioners and Council of Owen County. 

Bridge #16 located on Rocky Hill Road begun construction on 3/30/22. 

As of 4/27/22 bridge bid packets for bridges 44 &116 are now available for pick up at the Highway Department or the Auditors office.
