The mission of the Owen County Highway Department is to plan and use our resources wisely working within our budget to provide safe and reliable transportation services through maintenance and improvement. We will strive to accomplish this mission with the spirit of teamwork, by allowing open communication with a true sense of dedication and responsibility to our community.

Owen County Highway Department is responsible for 632 miles of roads.
The Highway Department is responsible for maintenance and preservation of all certified county roads and drainage systems. The department’s specific functions include: road resurfacing, chip and sealing, grading gravel roads, vegetation control, ditching, sign maintenance, snow removal, and fleet maintenance of county highway vehicles.
Owen County Highway Department applied for and received the 2021-1 Community Crossing Matching Grant. The roads that will be resurfaced this year are:
Culross Road- Road resurface from State Road 67 N to Jones Road
Walden Road- Road resurface from Flatwoods Road to Hardscrabble Road
Steubenville Road- Road resurface from Kieffaber Road to Keith Road.
***The Highway Department will be installing/replacing road culverts and driveway culverts where needed in accordance to Ordinance 2019-0012 and 2021-003 in order to preserve the roadways. Individuals who are residing on the roads mentioned above will be receiving a packet in the near future explaining more in detail.
