Owen County Highway Department is responsible for 632 miles of roads.
The Highway Department is responsible for maintenance and preservation of all certified county roads and drainage systems. The department’s specific functions include: road resurfacing, chip and sealing, grading gravel roads, vegetation control, ditching, sign maintenance, snow removal, and fleet maintenance of county highway vehicles.
** For immediate release 03/02/2021 15:34** Due to the recent abrupt deterioration of county roads caused by freezing/thawing, there will be a 10 ton load limit placed on ALL county roads per ordinance, up to 90 days. Farmers are exempt. Roads will be posted and monitored accordingly.
** CORRECTION 03/03/2021 08:11** Due to the recent abrupt deterioration of county roads caused by freezing/thawing, there will be a 15 ton load limit placed on certain county roads see ordinance, unless otherwise posted per ordinance, for up to 90 days. Farmers are exempt. Roads will be posted and monitored accordingly.

** 03/15/2021 10:05** WEIGHT LIMITS THAT WERE PUT INTO PLACE PER ORDINANCE 2019-0054 ARE BEING LIFTED AT THIS TIME WITH THE EXCEPTION OF COUNTY LINE ROAD. COUNTY LINE ROAD WILL CONTINUE TO HAVE RESTRICTIONS AT THIS TIME.
