Coroner

The Owen County Coroner serves as the voice for the deceased, tasked with investigating deaths that are sudden, unexpected, or occur under unusual circumstances. As a constitutionally elected official, the Coroner is committed to ensuring dignity, accuracy, and transparency in death investigations while serving the community with integrity.

In Indiana, each county coroner must be a resident of the county for at least one year prior to election and is required to complete both initial and ongoing forensic training. The Coroner plays a vital administrative and investigative role in collaboration with law enforcement, forensic specialists, and public health agencies.

📋 Coroner Responsibilities

• Investigate suspicious or unnatural deaths
• Serve as the administrator of death investigations
• Complete state-mandated training in forensic science
• Attend 16 hours of continuing education annually
• Engage with and respond to the needs of Owen County citizens
